Designed for content methods course instructors in teacher education programs, this unique year-long learning sequence supports teacher educators to develop their competency in core pedagogies of practice-based teacher education in their own courses. The application to join the 2024 cohort is now available and will close on October 13, 2023. The fee for participation in the 2024 Certificate Sequence is $5000 per person.
Participants in our certificate learning sequence receive in-depth coaching and support to develop their skill in practice-based teacher education pedagogies including selecting and using video, focusing teacher preparation on high-leverage practices, and attending to issues of justice and equity through teacher education. The sequence combines three in-person events with webinars and virtual one-on-one coaching in the context of participants’ own course planning and teaching.
Learn practice-based teacher education pedagogies such as video analysis and rehearsal that intertwine content knowledge, teaching practice, and attention to issues of justice.
Develop competence and confidence in preparing new teachers who understand systemic inequity and who seek to use their teaching practice to disrupt patterns of injustice in classrooms, support multilingual students, and provide culturally responsive instruction.
Join a network of teacher educators who understand their role in supporting excellent beginning teaching in U.S. classrooms and are committed to strengthening the instructional practice of their teacher candidates by improving their own practice.
“This is one of those experiences that is actually geared towards teaching. You learn the skills. You learn how to enact a practice. You don’t just learn a practice theoretically.“
– Dr. David Kimori, 2020 certificate learning sequence fellow, Assistant Professor at Minnesota State University , Mankato.
The learning sequence for the certificate is designed for content methods course instructors in teacher education programs. We seek enthusiastic and committed applicants who have the time and the inclination to work together and with TeachingWorks to try out and develop their competency with practice-based approaches to teacher education in their methods courses.
The learning sequence will begin with two in-person events in January 2024, the Introduction to Practice-Based Teacher Education Workshop and the Coaching Institute. These events are equipping participants with a foundational understanding of practice-based teacher education, as well as cultivating community within the cohort. Each participant is responsible for the registration and travel costs associated with attendance. TeachingWorks will communicate specific details about these events to admitted fellows.
